Flash Bangs
Don't ask me why, but my mind started wondering today and I started thinking about flash bang grenades. Anyone have one used on you before? Any defensive methods to minimize their effects?

Re: Flash Bangs
I know a guy that had them used on him.
knocked him out, and made his nose bleed. the concussion popped the nails from his sheetrock. broke his fishtank. Impressive effect. suggestion: not playing PS2 and smoking your bong when the gestapo kick down your door and hand you a flashbang... |
Re: Flash Bangs
Nothin you can do about it.

Re: Flash Bangs
I just recently put a set of electronic muffs in my nightstand. I recently read something about it and it made sense to me.
Bump in the night? Put on earmuffs, stuff rambo knife in my underwear and grab my xd. I'm ready. |
Re: Flash Bangs
They have to get to you to affect you. I would suggest tuffening up your windows so they will just bounce off outside.

Re: Flash Bangs
I've competed in 200 yard pistol - shooting 30 lb steel plates at 200 yrds....these were bolt action pistols chambered in rifle cartridges. We shot from a covered firing line.....the concusion was so forceful from the muzzle blasts it made it tough to shoot well when there was a full firing line going....to have an edge...many top shooters would wear a full faced motorcycle helmet....and it worked great.
If you think you may have a standoff against flash bang grenades......you might think about adding this to your armor kit. |

Re: Flash Bangs
Open your mouth.
It equalizes the pressure in your inner ear and lessens the chance that your eardrums will burst. Other than that, turn away, close your eyes, and cover your ears if at all possible. If they get a flashbang in on you, you're toast anyway. Neato story about flashbangs: Some moron JBT near Houston swiped a couple, and they were using them as pranks on each other. Tossed one to some guy (a "friend"), who tried to kick it away from him. He lost 3 toes. Moral: Don't kick flashbangs. |
Re: Flash Bangs
Flahs bangs are serious business. They are low-yield explosives intended not just to blind, but to dissorient with concussion. The motorcycle idea isnt bad, and the noise filtering electronic ear muffs are good too, jsut for every day shooting if for nothing else.
But in all honesty, if you are in a standard sized room(11x10 or w/e) there isnt much you can do against the concussion effect. Its enough to knock you on your butt and make your chest go thump, possibly even cause pain to sensitive areas like male genetalia. We tested different things when I ran a scenario paintball team, that were NON-leathal distraction/dissorienting devices. Needless to say, we would NEVER use anything similar to a flash bang against some one else. The resistant hurricane film on your windows is a great idea. Bullets will go through, but most large, low velocity objects wont, at first. At the very least itll give you a bit of time to prepare. Early warning objects/devices are your best bet to fend off the zombies, especialy zombies with flash bangs. |

That being said, there are training units that have considerably less power that are available/legal to anyone. They will not have the concussion or flash effect but would still be a good distraction for certain situations. We used to use them (real ones) outside on some non standard shooting ranges. Throw them from behind at the feet of new guys to rattle them while they were shooting/moving. The first couple of times they would really hop but after that they would get used to them and it wasn't as fun. All were done outside for safety....inside is another story. |
